Face the water

Being a senior life saving member includes many different aspects. From patrolling, to beach sprinting, surf ski paddling, mal paddling or surf boat rowing. If you do choose to compete as a senior you will be required to patrol, however if you just wish to patrol you don’t have to compete.

A senior member is anyone over the age of 16 at which time seniors are encouraged to their Bronze Medallion, and is non-negotitiable if you want to patrol and compete at senior carnivals.

Training for seniors is available year round…

The Lifesaving Bronze is the core patrolling qualification for active lifesavers and is the equivalent to the Surf Life Saving Australia Bronze Medallion. To be eligible, individuals must be over fifteen years of age and able to swim 400 metres in a swimming pool within 9 minutes. The Surf Rescue Certificate/Lifesaving Star, for members over the age of thirteen, requires that individuals are able to swim 200m in a swimming pool in less than 5 minutes.

There are many other areas in which to gain further knowledge and awards to be gained in the areas of advanced resuscitation, rescue boat driving, first aid, radio operation, training and examination.

This variety of higher awards allows diversity in skills and experience across patrols with a patrol member’s function varying according to their qualifications.
