Training
Children participate in training sessions within groups based on their age. The content of a training session will vary depending on the child’s age. Sessions usually involve a mix of sand and water activities along with a surf education component. Younger age groups also play games during their training session.
The main Nipper training session is held on Saturday afternoons from 3.00pm – 4.30pm. Older nippers (U12 and up) may attend additional training sessions or mixed training sessions with senior members.
Nipper training involves many activities aimed at improving fitness, developing teamwork skills and life saving skills. These activities include:
• Water Safety
• Surf Awareness
• Swimming
• Nipper Board Paddling
• Wading
• Beach Running
• Basic Rescue Techniques
• Basic Resuscitation
• Life Saving Competition Skills
These activities along with other fun games are conducted on the beach by volunteer instructors and supervised by suitably qualified lifesavers.
